Colour Room

When I got invited to go to the Marks and Spencer "Colour Room" I wasn't quite expecting what it was. Instead of using the traditional Pantone bible, they have there very own collection of colour ways. And it's safe to say there's a lot..it's a whole room full of books, files and draws full of colour samples. I have never seen so many shades of green in my entire life, I'm talking hundreds. As you can expect I was in there a long time trying to pick out the right shade of khaki for a dress.

Who knew that a small swatch like that could cost so much.

Fashion Street!

As well as doing a few errands around the office, I have been given the task of putting together ideas for an innovative sportswear collection, for a cycling and running campaign. I have had to look into different types of fabrics, clothing, accessories as well safety and everything technology!

Not only have I been doing online research, I have gone shopping in Oxford Street (with the expenses card) and we are also planning on traveling around London on the "Boris Bikes" as well as taking a trip to the Velodrome at the Olympic park.

Once I have put all the information and research I have collected into a presentation, I get the opportunity to present it to the senior designer of womenswear...scary stuff!!!

Spring/Summer16 Brainstorm

I was fortunate enough to be able to sit in on the womenswear and accessories S/S16 brainstorm. This included many multiple presentations, powerpoints and videos from various designers looking at what trends are forecast for next years season, the colour palettes, prints, yarn and fabric choices as well as what the must haves are for next year.

Internship - TrendBoards

It's not every day you get the opportunity to intern at one of the country's biggest company's, Marks and Spencer. I'm lucky enough to be working alongside the swimwear designers, working on their S/S 16 collection.
Throughout the day I was putting together trend boards, of what I thought would work in their next collection. I was particularly interested in a tribal/aztec type print with bright, bold colours with macrame and crochet details. As well as looking at cover ups and finishing touches to the swimwear.
